  RIP CURL PRO PORTUGAL Championnat du Monde de Surf Professionnel ASP Peniche - Portugal 07 au 18 octobre 2010 Peniche, Portugal (14/10/10) - Kelly Slater (USA, 38 ans), 9 fois Champion du Monde et actuellement n°1 mondial vient de remporter sa 44ème finale sur le circuit ASP contre Jordy Smith (ZAF, 22 ans) dans des vagues d'1,5m. Cette 8ème étape du circuit joue un rôle important quant à la fin de l'année et le classement définitif. De ce fait le niveau de surf aujourd'hui était particulièrement impressionnant.            Avec une prestation solide et constante tout le long de la compétition, Slater a dominé surtout durant la deuxième moitié de la finale. « La finale a commencé lentement sans aucun score fort ni de l'un ou de l'autre. J'ai mis la pression vers la fin car je sais que Jordy est un incroyable surfer et que rien n'est gagné jusqu'à la dernière seconde. »       Kelly, inimitable... Se rapprochant de son dixième titre, record jamais égalé dans l'histoire du surf, Slater se rapproche de son but avec la possibilité de concrétiser cette 10ème victoire durant le prochain Rip Curl Pro Search à Puerto-Rico. ?C'est bien sûr très sérieux pour moi,? dit Slater, ?mon entourage, ma fiancé, mes amis me portent et me suivront à Puerto-Rico? Smith s'est battu courageusement durant les 40 mn de finale avec le plus gros score, un 7,10 (sur 10) plaçant un ?Superman Air? mais ne trouvant pas un deuxième bon score. « Je me suis senti hors rythme durant cette finale » constate Smith, « Mais je suis content, c'est une bonne année et un bon résultat. J'ai adoré cette compétition au Portugal, les vagues étaient excellentes et être en finale contre Kelly est un vrai honneur. » Rajoute-t-il humblement.             Jordy Smith, N°2 de ce RIP CURL PRO PORTUGAL et actuel n°2 mondial arrivera-t-il à surpasser le King Kelly ? La défaite de Mick Fanning (Champion du Monde 2009) au Tour 3 et la victoire de Kelly Slater aujourd'hui ont définitivement sorti Fanning de la course au titre. La prochaine étape se passera à Puerto Rico du 30 Octobre au 10 Novembre. Le titre de Champion du Monde pourrait s'y décider.
